The pool area had the vibe and atmosphere of the valley Ho hotel in scottsdale ( best pool scene ever ) yet reminded me off passing the time poolside in miami. My daughter loved the pool and although it was getting to be winter in vegas the shallow nature of the pool kept the water nice and warm. Only one of the pools was open but pool service was attentive despite the limited crowd. Lots of cabanas and ill try that next summer.
My wife enjoyed the spa while i enjoyed draft beer and internet poolside and our daughter the water, suprisinglly although the hotel does not seem to cater to children ( no kids meals anywhere, and no discounts for children at buffet, a significant downer ) a number of kids were around and our daughter made friends easilly.
Our room was impresive from the moment we walked in, hit the button and the drapes open or close automatically lights come on and dim according to taste. The 2 bedroom suite has 4 tv' s and u walk into the living area, beside which, seperated by a wall is an eating area for 6 and a small island style bar, sink area. with an extra fridge for your own stuff. ( thanks we loved that feature ) behind which was a 2 peice bath. on either end we had a bedroom with an adjoining huge bathroom and walkin closet. Nice!!!The bed was great and just let you sleep, and if u had to much free beer at the tables u got up and jumped in the steam shower to melt away the fuzz, class act!
hit the auto drape and watch the vegas skyline while snoozing for a few more minutes.grab the 2 papers that come with the room and sit in your living room and watch the traffic coming up the wide lane highway coming up from the street reminicent of one of those moscow heavy arms or chinese parade squares. The flow of vehicles is something to behold and the coolest is watching the "pez" dispenser taxi cab loading area as the cabs come up a ramp from an unseen parkade... very cool.
I have no tips for saving money, as this hotel is similarlly priced to most MGM's, special mention is the lemon grass where we had the best thai meal in years... Room service is an extra 4 bucks, but if u have a share plate in the other restaraunts they nail u an extra 3 bucks... of course vegas portions, so its easier to share and we found oursleves spending less on room service then going downstairs... Pancakes were heavenly. Of course being vegas they dont have a coffee maker in the room something which is a must in my opinion and seriouslly lacking... What do these people really think that i will gamble a couple of hundred while i have to run downstairs to an buy an overpriced cup of java.... or that a coffee maker in my room will keep me out of the casino??? We found out later we could have requested a coffee maker???
I thought all the staff were very friendlly including the maids who were very serious about keeping you happy, security would actually joke with you and most staff made you feel special. We did have a number of communication problems with the VIP services and i have read on other comments people have compalined about service and i attribute this to growing and opening pains as some of these people are inexperienced... however if given the opportuntiy the staff made it right.
The experience of viewing this massive complex from inside and enjoying the "newness" is well worth the money. If u can afford it go with the sky suites and they will limo you to and from the airport from the fleet of 30 + limos owned by the hotel. Sky suites also has a coffee and snack lounge which was free and easy to get coffee from in the morning. The wine and cheese held every night was sparselly attended but a nice touch. Free internet in my suite?? an beer was 7 bucks or 15 bucks for the 24oz cup. Enjoy im sure you'll be impressed.
